Neighborhood Spotlight – Des Moines, WA – Navigating Real Estate with Ease

When you think of Des Moines, Washington, the first things that come to mind might be the sparkling waters of the Puget Sound, the iconic marina, or even its proud title as the “Boating Capital of the World.” But for me, it’s more than that—it’s the perfect backdrop for helping people take the exciting yet sometimes overwhelming step into real estate.

This weekend, Zack and I took a peaceful stroll along the Des Moines waterfront. We enjoyed the crisp winter air, admired the boats docked at the marina, and made a quick stop at a cozy coffee shop right by the water. It reminded me how much I love helping people navigate their real estate journeys, much like steering a boat in calm waters. We planned on playing some pinball at the arcade but it was reserved for a private party… Waterland Arcade, we are coming back soon.

Finding Your Way in Real Estate

Let’s face it—buying or selling a home can feel intimidating. It can sometimes feel like uncharted waters. But here’s the thing: you don’t have to do it alone. Just like a marina provides a safe harbor, I’m here to guide you through the process with the right tools, resources, and strategies to make it as seamless as possible.

Why Des Moines Stands Out to me

Des Moines is more than just a beautiful place to live; it’s a community that blends coastal charm with accessibility. Its marina is a hub of activity, offering opportunities for boating, fishing, and simply enjoying the water. The nearby coffee shops and local businesses add to the town’s welcoming atmosphere.

For anyone considering a move, Des Moines offers:

  • Waterfront Living: Stunning views and outdoor activities year-round.
  • Commuter Friendly: Small-town vibes with easy access to Seattle and Tacoma.
  • Housing Options: Compared to other Puget Sound cities, Des Moines provides excellent value and mix of housing options. I recently toured a home that was listed for sale at 600K with a spacious backyard walking distance to downtown and even a pinball bar near by. I also saw a 1 Bed 1 Bath Condo near the water that had the perfect entertainers floor plan.

A Few Stats:

  • Median Home Prices: As of November 2024, the median sale price for homes in Des Moines is approximately $595,250, reflecting a 7.7% increase from the previous year.
  • Comparison with Nearby Cities: When compared to neighboring areas, Des Moines offers relatively affordable housing options. For instance, the median home price in Normandy Park is around $996,200, while in Kent, it’s approximately $651,000.
